Aimed to examine the outcomes of patients who were cared for in a neurosurgical centre vs those that were secondary transfers.
Prospective
All patients who had evacuation of extradural, supratentorial, posterior fossa and intradural lesions.
Total 104 patients - 71 primary and 33 secondary
Much better outcomes in the primary transfer group
- 4 vs 24% mortality
- 10 vs 27% mod/severe disability
- 86 vs 49% recovery
Justifies taking the head injured patient with reduced GCS directly to the specialist centre.
