What would a patient with PMR feel?

A

Sudden onset of aches and pain, usually in the hips and shoulder girdle bilaterally.
Maliase
Low-grade fever.
Feel muscular weakness
Morning stiffness that lasts up to 60 mins

What should we ask patient to see whether they have giant cell (temporal) arteritis?

A
  • new HA
  • any new symptoms or sign compatible w ischemia of an artery above the neck
  • jaw pain during chewing
  • temporal artery tenderness
  • unexplained subacute fever or anaemia

What are the risks of not treating giant cell (temporal) arteritis?

A

Can lead to blindness, aortic aneurysm and / or stroke
