Who is PMR commonly seen in ?
A
Adults over 50, Caucasians,
Female 2:1 Male
Patients with Temporal Arteritis

What would a patient with PMR feel?
A
Sudden onset of aches and pain, usually in the hips and shoulder girdle bilaterally.
Maliase
Low-grade fever.
Feel muscular weakness
Morning stiffness that lasts up to 60 mins

What should we ask patient to see whether they have giant cell (temporal) arteritis?
A
- new HA
- any new symptoms or sign compatible w ischemia of an artery above the neck
- jaw pain during chewing
- temporal artery tenderness
- unexplained subacute fever or anaemia

What are the risks of not treating giant cell (temporal) arteritis?
A
Can lead to blindness, aortic aneurysm and / or stroke

Describe a difference between Fibromyalgia and PMR?
A
In PMR
Symptoms are more localised
Raised ESR
Pain with palpation movement of the shoulders
