What is PMR commonly associated w ?

What age does it tend to occur?
A
> 50yrs

How does it tend to present?
A
i. Subacute onset of bilateral aching, tenderness + morning stiffness shoulders, hips + proximal limb muscles
ii. +/- fatigue, fever, anorexia, depression
iii. Mild polyarthritis, tenosynovitis + carpal tunnel

What ISNT present in PMR?
A
Weakness

What investigations would u do for PMR, what would u find?
A
i. Inflammatory markers - ↑ESR(>40)/CRP
ii. LFTs - ↑ALP
iii. CK normal (distinguish between myositis/myopathy)

What is the treatment of PMR?
A
- prednisolone 15mg/day PO
- Reduce the dose slowly (1mg/m)
- Bisphosphonates for bone protection

How quickly would u expect a response to treatment?
A
Rapid - within 1 week
