A
- Women
- Older than 50

What is PMR associated with?
A
15-20% patient with PMR have giant cell arteritis

What are symptoms and signs of PMR?
A
- Difficulty rising from seated or prone position
- Shoulder and hip girdle stiffness
- Muscle tenderness
- Shoulder/hip bursitis
- Oligoarthritis
- Acute onset
- Anorexia
- Low grade fever

What are possible DDx for PMR?
A
- Giant cell arteritis
- Early rheumatoid arthritis
- Hypothyroidism
- Fibromyalgia
- Polymyositis

What is the diagnosis of PMR based on?
A
history and elevated ESR and CRP

What bloods are order and what is found in PMR?
A
- ESR: elevated
- CRP: elevated
- FBC

What is the management of PMR?
A
- 1st line: corticosteroid e.g. prednisolone 12.5-25mg daily
-calcium + vit D + bisphopsphonate
-NSAID - 2nd line: methotrexate and folic acid
3, 3rd line: tocilizumab

How long does it take for PMR treatment to work?
A
Rapid improvement occurs within 24-72 hours with low dose prednisolone

What are possible complications of PMR?
A
- Chronic relapsing PMR
- Increased risk of infection secondary toc orticosteroid
- Osteoperosis secondary to corticosteroid
- DMT2 to corticosteroid
- Giant cell arteritis
- Etc

How long do patients need treatment for PMR?
A
2-3 years
