State the properties of polymers
A
They are saturated and the main carbon chain of polyalkenes is non polar so they are unreactive.
Longer chain with less branches = stronger intermolecular forces = stronger + more rigid

What do plasticisers do?
A
They can be added to change properties. They weaken intermolecular forces between chains so chains are able to slide over each other making them more flexible. Can be added to PVC.

Poly(chloroethene) is made from long closely packed polymer chains that are hard and brittle and are used in drain pipes
