polymer Flashcards
polymerisation-
monomers joining together to make very long molecules called polymers. process known as polymerisation. Many polymers r made from chemicals that are obtained from crude oil.
polymer is..
Polymers are very long molecules made from repeating units called monomers. There are two types of polymers:
Natural
Synthetic
polythene properties=
Its properties are strong,
tough and waterproof.
It is also an electrical insulator and is flexible.
synthetic polymers e.g
tights,dresses, a parachute
difference between monomers and polymers?
monomers-smaller units from which larger molecules are made
polymers- repeated pattern of units -monomers- joined together and in a larger number.
materials of synthetic polymers:
nylon,polyester, teflon and epoxy
examples of antural polymers:
silk, wool, DNA, cellulose and protein
examples of natural polymers:
silk, wool, DNA, cellulose and protein
difference between thermosoftening polymer and thermosetting polymer?
Thermosoftening (also called thermoplastics) are plastics which will soften when heated and can be reshaped. Thermosetting plastics are plastics do not soften on heating.
