Polygraphy & drug Flashcards
Define polygrapy
Motoring several physiological prameters simultaneously. Measuring of blood pressure, puls, skin conductivity.
What is sympatetic activation?
The activation of the sympatetic nervous system. Involantary responces such as heart rate, sweating, respiratory rate and blood pressure
What is GSR?
Galvic skin responce, variations in the electircal characteristic in the skin. Controled by the sympatetic nervous system, ccan be activated by emotional and sympatetic responces.
Define drug
Medicine, active substance, active indredient, usally synthetic or organic
Define pharamacology
The science of medicine, investigate the fate of medicines avtive substances within the organism
Define Absorption
The active substance reaches the blood plasma
Deifine Distribution
The process when the substance leaves the blood and reaches tissues and organs
Therapeutic window, define that
place of consentration range of a substanse where it evokes the terapeutic effect without side effects
Define Autonomic nervous system
A division of the peripheral nervous system that influences the function of internal organs.
Define sympathetic activation
Activation of the sympathetic nervous system. E.g. during GSR.
Define Saccade
Is a quick, simultaneous movement of both eyes between two or more phases of fixation in the same direction.
What is Irwin´s activity test?
A systematic observational procedure for assessing and scoring the effects of drug on the behavioural and physiological state of the rodents/mice. By using a subjective scale with scores ranging from 0-8, one can compare the differences between the control mouse and the two treated mice. Score values and their differences from control scores will indicate if the studied drug has a CNS-action, and in that case, also what kind of action it is.
Define Absolute sensory threshold
The lowest intensity of a stimulus at which the stimulus can be detected.
Define Differential sensory threshold
The lowest difference between two values of the same stimulus parameter which can be distinguished.
Define Maximal stimulus
The intensity level at which increasing the intensity does not elicit any further increase in sensation.
