Muscle Flashcards
Define motor unit
a motor nerve and the cells it innervates. they work together to coordonate the contractions of a single muscle cell
Define muscle tone
The contious and passive partial contraction of the muscle, or the muscle resistance to passively strech
Explain motor unit recruitment
Activation of additional motor units to accomplish an increase in contractile strength in a muscle
Explain muscle fatiuge
The decline of a muscle to generate force.
What are the two types of muscle fatiuge?
Metabolic fatiuge- reduce ability of muscle fibre to contract.
Neural fatiuge- limitated ability of a nerve to generate substained signals.
What is a dyamometer?
measurement of the power of muscle contraction (clench force)
What happends when holding an object, regards to motor units?
The number of motor units will increase, the smalles motor units will activate first, follow by the larger motor units.
