what is the most common cause of death in polycythemia vera?
Thrombosis. the vessels get clogged uo with increased hct increasing the viscosity of the blood.
what is the mainstay treatment for polycythemia vera?
phlebotomy
what is the most likely longterm transformation in patients with polycythemia vera?
they can develop myelofibrosis
- see tear drop shaped cells and nucleated RBCs on PBS
what is the treatment for myelofibrosis?
lenalidomide (TNF inhibitor)
