Q

ClO4 -

A

Perchlorate

21
Q

These polyatomic ions don’t have oxygen - a CAT breathes nitrogen

A

ammonium NH4+
thocyanate SCN-
cyanide CN -

22
Q

The difference between an ITE and an ATE is

A

one less oxygen atom, e.g. Nitrate is NO3- and Nitrite is NO2-

23
Q

The ITES to memorize are

A

Chlorite, Nitrite, Sulfite

24
Q

The Oxygen IDES are

A

Hydroxide
Peroxide

Nice Children Clean Clothes So Carefully 2 Prevent Manganese Crying 2 C2H302
26
Naming ionic compounds
1. Cation goes first 2. Anion goes second e.g. sodium sulfate is (Na+) and sulfate (SO4-2) e.g. ammonium nitrate is (NH +4) and nitrate (NO3-)
27
Naming elemental anions
1. remove the element ending 2. add "ide" e.g. fluorine F becomes F-1 fluor -ide
28
Naming elemental cations
The cation name is the same as the element e.g. silver AG is still silver AG+
29
Naming covalent molecules
1. Use elelment closest to the center of the periodic table 2. then end in ide 3. if the first element only has one atom - don't use mono e.g. CO2 - carbon dioxide (no mono here) e.g. N2O - dihydrogen monixide
30
Chlorine Oxygen Ions
chlorite ClO2- chlorate ClO3- perchlorate ClO4-

Chromium Oxygen Ions
