Pollution Flashcards
what has lead to a huge to the production of huge industrial waste and pollution
population increase
what contributes to the pollution of the atmosphere
1) power stations
2) cars
what contributes to the pollution of waters
1) Sewage and Toxic waste produced by industrial practices
2) excess fertilisers from the agricultural industry
what contributes the pollution of the land
1) Toxic Herbicides and pesticides used in farming
2) Buried nuclear waste and household waste
3) Littering
give a reasons for why the human population is expanding
1) Modern medicine as it has a major role in reducing the amount of deaths by disease
2) Advancements in the agricultural industry due to its merge with scientific research it has stopped worldwide hunger
what is Eutrophication and when does it occur
Eutrophication is when the availability of nitrates in the water increase. This happens when untreated sewage or excessive fertiliser enters water sources from the land
what are the two consequences of Eutrophication and what are the effects and what do they lead
1) Increases the rate of respiration of decomposers - means that producers decompose quicker which leads to a lower level of dissolved oxygen in the water. organisms that require oxygen die as they cannot respire
2) Increased growth of producers - very fast growth spurts of algae is common blocking sunlight
