- Represents Germany’s Catholics
- Supports the Republic
- Supports social reform but is socially conservative i.e. against abortion, contraception, pornography

- Founded by Stresemann in 1918 - a conservative and monarchist
- Initially suspicious of the Republic but strongly supports it after 1924
- Represents business, industrialists, white collar workers
