Political Parties Flashcards
Why are there Political Parties
Without political parties, electors would have to individually evaluate every candidate in every election. But political parties enable electors to make judgments about just a few groups, and then apply their judgment of the party to all the candidates affiliated with that group.
Republican views
support for lower taxes, small government conservatism, free market capitalism, free trade, deregulation of corporations, and restrictions on labor unions. (Less Government involvement)
Democrat views
freedom of assembly, association, property rights, freedom of religion and speech, citizenship, consent of the governed, voting rights, freedom from unwarranted governmental deprivation of the right to life and liberty, and minority rights.

The democratic stance on immigration is open borders. Allow everyone into the county. The website says “We honor our fundamental values by treating all people who come to the United States with dignity and respect, and we always seek to embrace — not to attack — immigrants”. This makes it seem like they want immigrants to be allowed in no matter what.
Republican Stance on Gun Control
The republican stance on gun control is that it’s unconstitutional. The republican party is very big on the fact that the constitution protects the right to bear arms. Some republicans support adding deeper background checks however they do not believe in making people pay outrageous amounts to own a gun.
The Republican Stance on Abortion
The republican stance on Abortion is pro-life. Pro-life meaning that abortion should be illegal, in many red states it is illegal now. The common argument about abortion is that it’s a two way street and that the man should be involved, there are many different opinions. Not all republicans agree and abortion is a highly debated topic.
The Republican stance on COVID-19
The republican stance on COVID-19 has changed over time. During the start of COVID some say it was denial, and then it shifted to acceptance. They believe testing should be available but not forced, vaccinations available but not forced. The big difference is that republicans believe it’s nothing to be scared of.
The Republican Stance on Unemployment
The republican view on unemployment is almost the same as the democrats creating more jobs, how it differs is that they should give less money to unemployment. Meaning that they want to support job creation in the us. However they want more control of funds going to people who are “unemployed”. They hope to reduce the number of people abusing the system.
