A political belief system

- Promotes change
- Offers guidance on how societies should be structured
- Create identity
How are ideologies relevant to people ?
- They provide the basis for political action
- Helps individuals to understand the world better

- Acts as a social cement to the state
- It determines how the state will be governed
How can ideologies be expressed?
- Slogans
- Party Manifestos
- Government Policies
What three groups are ideologies placed in ?
Right
Left

What is the right wing ?
Where the government is less involved in planning the economy
What is the left wing ?
Where the government is involved greater in the economy
What is the centrist ?
To accommodate a compromise between the two extremes
What are the FIVE types of Political Ideologies?
1) Capitalism - RIGHT
2) Marxism (Socialism, Communism) - LEFT WING
3) Liberalism - Liberal Democracy - Centrist
4) Democracy -
5) Fascism - RIGHT
What is Capitalism ?
This is not a political ideology, this is an economic system where goods and services are produced privately
This is associated with right hand ideologies
What term is an associated with Capitalism?
“Laissez- Faire” - is a French term which means leave to do or leave alone.
This is the idea that the economy works better when left alone by the government
What is Liberal Democracy?
Giving the ordinary man more of a say in the government chosen and the running of the country
What is Liberalism
Giving everyone the freedom to do what they want as long as they are not hurting others
What is Democracy
Rule of the people by the people
