Political Documents Flashcards
Declaration of Independence
Articles of Confederation
Constitution, including Bill of Rights and Amendments
Federalist No. 10
Warns the people that factions are inevitable because everyone has their own self interests. Governments must be able to pass laws that are for the good of the people rather than any one specific group.
Federalist No. 51
Branches of government should be able to check each other to ensure no branch becomes more powerful than the others; checks and balances.
Federalist No. 70
Discusses the importance of just one executive leader rather than a group. One reader (the president) is easier to scrutinize and keep in check rather than a group.
Federalist No. 78
Discusses the power of judicial review, and that the federal courts have the power to check other branches of government to ensure their actions are constitutional.
Brutus No. 1
Tries to argue that the US is too big to govern, and that small republics are best for stable governments.
