people through certain skills.

CHIEFDOM
A large community of people
occupying a definite territory,
having a government of their
own, wherein a great number of
inhabitants render obedience
and enjoy freedom from
external control.

- People were ranked based on wealth, power, and
prestige - The social pyramid characterized the social
ranking, wherein most of the people occupying
the upper positions were the people in power.

is the power of an individual or group o enforce rules upon the members of a certain group.
AUTHORITY
It is concerned with how a political institution can be maintained by the leaders personality.
CHARISMATIC AUTHORITY
Concerned with how a political system can be maintained by the constant reference to customs, traditions, and conventions.
TRADITIONAL AUTHORITY
This type of authority rests on an established belief of immemorial traditions and the legitimacy of those exercising authority under the rule.
TRADITIONAL AUTHORITY
Based on well-defined laws.
LEGAL-RATIONAL AUTHORITY
People follow the laws, not because of the leader’s charisma but because of the legitimacy and validity of the laws bestowed upon all members of the society.

Modern societies depend on them since these societies are complex and are confronted by many challenges.
