Politics
Decisions about how people live and interact together in society. often includes the administration and management of state affairs.
Geopolitics
the decision making of government in terms of the geography of the area on a national and international scale. often includes interactions between and among groups of countries.
Nation-state
The concept of an independent nation ruled by a government that controls events within clearly marked boundaries. people within often have a common history, customs, religion, ethnicity, and sense of community.
Sovereignty
The legal concept that the authority of a state is not subject to legal control by another state. A nation state can create policies and laws without interference from other states.
Ideology
A set of beliefs that form a basis for a nations political and economic systems and its social goals. The ideology a nation state has often determines the type of actions its members will take.

Democracy
Form of government in which citizens choose their leaders in open and fair elections. (rule of many) (freedom of expression)
Authoritarian
A form of government that limits the freedoms of its citizens, demands strict obedience to government authority, and doesn’t allow criticism of its policies.
Types of authoritarianism
-Absolute monarchy
-military authoritarianism (junta)
-one-party nation state
-religious nation state
Communism
A form of government in which ownership of most goods is held by the state, which generally has some form of authoritarian government. ( state controlled healthcare, few rights, no government criticism)
political stability
Consistency/endurance of government marked by low risk of political upheaval. Creates a peaceful environment.
