The Impact of Mass Incarceration on Poverty: Their study found there is empirical evidence that supports the claim that mass incarceration increases the rate of poverty. More so, had mass incarceration never happened the poverty level would have decreased by 20% (Defina, & Hannon, 2013).

Parental Incarceration: Overall, children with parents who are incarcerated are more likely to engage in delinquent and criminal acts. Specifically the loss of a mother to incarceration can be especially devastating because they are often the primary caregivers - the child is often given to other people and creates a lack of consistency (Tasca et al., 2011).
