Where are the objectives for the EU found?
In the Preamble to the Treaties, and Articles 2 and 3 of the TEU
What does Article 2 TEU promote?
That the EU is founded upon values of respect, human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, rule of law, and respect for HR
What does Art 3 TEU promote?
Promotes peace, values and well-being of its citizens
Also establish an internal market, and sustainable development of Europe
Articles 2 - 6 TFEU: states?
Sets out the Union’s competences - clearer than has been done before
What does Art 3: Exclusive competence mean?
Areas where only the EU may legislate, and adopt legally binding acts
The MS can only do so if empowered by the Union/for the implementation of Union Acts
What does Art 4: Shared competence mean?
The Union and MS may legislate, or adopt legally binding acts - MS will exercise competence to the extent that the Union has not exercised its competence
Art 6: what does it state?
Areas where the EU can support/co-ordinate/supplement MS actions
Where are the core policies of the EU found?
Art 26 TFEU
What do the core policies establish?
Create the internal market: remove restrictions on free movement of goods
Restrict the MS freedom of action
Harmonising MS laws
