What is the marriage act 2013 and what did it do?
- allow same sex to marry in civil ceremonies
- allow same sex to marry in religious ceremonies
- enable individuals to change their legal gender without having to end their marriage
What was the free contraception policy and what did it introduce?
- from 1961 doctors could prescribe the pill for free
- more widely available for all from 1974 when family planning clinics were allowed to give it without prescription
what was the abortion act and what did it introduce
the act meant that a doctor performing an abortion could no longer be prosecuted so long as it was according to the following conditions
- it must be carried out before viability (when the fetus would be capable of surviving)
- two doctors must both agree that the abortion is lawful
- must be agreed that if the pregnancy continued it would put the mother or child at risk of physical or mental health in danger
when was the equal pay act devised and when did it come into effect?
1970 and 1975
what was the child support act and what did it introduce
- If a parent is able to do so, they must support their child financially to help maintain them until the age of 18
- created the child support agency from 1993
- now known as the child of maintenance service
what was the civil partnership act and what did it introduce
- this enabled same sex couples to have a civil partnership
- this allows them to have the same legal rights as a married couple such as inheritance tax, next of kin rights, and life insurance recognition.
who was free child care offered to
Couples if both parents are working and earning the equivalent of 16 hours on minimum wage and their children were of ages 3+
What changes in education policy occurred in 2015
- children in education until the age of 18
- people must stay in full time education for example collage or an apprenticeship or spending 20 hours or more a week working or volunteering while in part time education or training. This must happen until the age of 18
How have maternity and paternity leave laws changed
- Leave is up to 50 weeks, 37 of which are paid.
- It can be shared by parents if they meet certain eligibility criteria
- mothers must still take the initial two weeks after birth, but they can cut their maternity leave short and exchange it for shared parental leave
- both parents will then have a flexible choice of how to split up the rest of the leave entitlement of up to 50 weeks
When did adoption law change significantly and how did it do so.
2002 and allows same sex couples and unmarried couples the right to adopt.
How did divorce policy change in April 2022
Introduction of the no fault divorce allowing more access to divorce. VERY EASY
