Disability Standards for Education (2005)
These Standards are formulated under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (DDA). The purpose of the standards is to make the obligations of all education service providers under the DDA more clear and explicit, and to make clear the rights of people with disabilities in relation to education and training.
Standard 4 - Enrolment
The prospective student is able to seek admission to, or apply for enrolment in, the institution on the same basis as a prospective student without a disability, and without experiencing discrimination.
Standard 5 - Participation
Reasonable steps must be taken to ensure the student is able to participate and use the facilities and services.
Standard 6 - Curriculum
Must be designed to enable participation by the student with a disability and without discrimination.
Standard 7 - Student Support
Student must have access to specialised support services to ensure participation.
Standard 8 - Harassment and Victimisation
Prevention of harassment or victimisation of both the student, or an associate, must be ensured through the development of appropriate strategies.
