A Police officer When making an arrest shall:
Identify themselves
Inform person they are under arrest
Inform person reason for arrest
Take physical control
Inform person Right to counsel or Legal aid
Place in handcuffs and double lock
If handcuffs not used be prepard to justify decesion
Allow reasonable access to telephone
Arrange interim care for dependent person
Record deails of arrest in memobook
Complete all reports, and release / detention procedure
If arrested on a warrant check Master name Index (MNI)
serve any documents on accused
Submit all paperwork to OIC prior to reporting off duty
If prisoner has ingested a potentially harmfull substance
If necessary and qualified perform First aid
Take person to nearest hospital
Interpretation services if required
If prisoner has a guide dog..make efforts to accommodate dog through the Toronto Police Operations Centre (TPOC)
Dog should.never be transported with prisoner to court
When releasing a person ensure victims are safe prior to release
When releasing via Form 9 or 10 or criminal summons ensure a tps 493 court i information form is served
Not arrest a person who identifies as a diplomat or consular official on there premises
Refrian from arresting a person during a religious ceremony
Officer in charge when an Arrest has been made Shall ensure:
Consideration given to public interest in deciding to continue the detention..... identity of person Secure or preserve evidence Court appearance Repetition of offence Safety and security of victim or witness
All required reports completed promptly.
Arrest particulars recorded on UCMR
Compliance with appropriate release documents
Ensure they have been served tps 493 Court information page
