Q

Why do you want to be a Police Officer?

A

My motivation for perusing law enforcement is driven by three factors: meaningful challenge, love of country, and fear of regret.

i. Many of the skillsets required to being a good police officer is applicable to being an optimal human being. For example, the nature of law enforcement demands an officer to interact appropriately with a variety of people at any given time in a variety of situations. These interactions require effective communication in a manner that is assertive, compassionate and solutions oriented. Conflict resolution requires mental agility and physical fitness to deescalate or neutrilize threats.

I believe masterings the challenges of becoming a good police officer will lead to a rewarding and fulling life not only professionally but also personally. If you can to learn to handle with difficult people and diffiult situations well, then you’re on the top of life’s challenges. I mean that’sa core message of Christ, find a heavy enough burden and it will mitigate life’s sufferings. The highest thing a person can due before their death is to serve others.

ii. The second motivator is love of country. A. part of loving the United States means to have faith in the Constitution. The bible states that faith without works is dead. When we believe in something, there should be a physical action that backs up that belief. For me, becoming a police officer is that physical action because sworn officers take an oath to support the Constituion of the United States, their state, and the laws of their agency’s jurisdiction. To me, I believe it’s a privlege to serve one of the greatest documents in history.

iii. My third motivator for becoming a police officer is fear of regret. I regret not serving in the military years go when the calling came and I do not want repeat the same mistake again. This time I am listening to myself instead of others. Whether I am selected or not, I need to know for myself that I did my best trying.

So those are my three reasons, meaningingful and rewarding challege, love of country, and fear of regret.

Q

How do police help the community?

A

Police help the community by maintaining peace. When there is peace, there is liberty for an individual purse happiness.

The presence of police is the maintence structure of the law.

If a community can count on police to protect life and property, it will them a sense of peace and liberty to live their lives.

because when there is peace, there’s libertyand liberty.

The mere presense of police serves as detterence mechanism against criminals and gives peace of mind for law abiding citizens. For example it just feels better running at park when you see a police curiser parked nearby.

Q

Tell me your reaction if a suspect offered money for you to “forget” his/her crime?

A

I would clarify with the suspect and say you want give me money to let you go, is that correct? And if the suspect says yes, I would charge him for trying to bribe a police officer.

It’s unacceptable and unforgiveable for a police officer to accept brides because taking bridges is the gateway to other nefarious activities.

It’s one of the reasons our police is distinginshed from other counties, we don’t take bribes.

Q

What are your strenghts?

A

Self aware or self citical, meaning I’m always on the look out for deficienes that I need to improve upon.

Good listener.

Listening to understand requires thinking before speaking. It requires seeing from that person’s point of view and being able to articulate their point. The imporance of doing this is to get complete information before making a decision.

While listening to respond is reactionary, it only seeks to find key words to react to, it completely disregards the person speaking. Decisions make from this is based on incomplete information which will lead to a break down in communication.

Q
A

I tend to be extra critical of my own work because I always want to deliver exceptional results. I have a propensity to overthink projects before diving in which leads to procastination. Being extra critical of my own work leads to overthinking. Over thinking causes analysis paralysis which results in nothing getting done.

17
Q

Where do you see yourself in five years?

A

In five years, I like to have a pretty good understanding by then of what it takes to be a good officer. I see myself completing all the necessary training, duty requirements, and conduct protocols to advance to the rank of segeant. More specifically.

In year one, I will learn and glean and learn much as possible from every source I can – from the Academy, FTO, from the experiences senior policers, fellows peers, from police publications, and my own research.

While working, somewhere in year two I would begin earning a master’s degree online that would be application to applicable to law enforcement. That should take about one year.

In year three, after getting my master’s, I always want to learn Spanish so I’lI want to learn a language that would be useful and that I could practice often. I think Spanish accomplishes that because Houston has a pretty large hispanic population.

in year 4 and 5 I would continue to learn about law enforcement, keep myself up to date on police publications, contine learning Spanish, and begin reading leadershp matterial to acquire the necessary skillset and experience as possible to advance to the next rank when year 5 comes around.
