Features

- they govern the same citizens but different levels
- existence is consititutionally guaranteed
- Constit cannot be unilaterally changed
- Supreme court resolves conflicts
- Revenue sources are predefined
this federal set up safeguards diversity and promotes unity

how can i change the powersharing setup

* Rise of regional politics
* Formation of coalition gvts
* Supreme Court passed a judgement making it harder for central gvt to dismiss state gvts
Decentralisation why?
- India is vast
- local problems can be resolved locally
- locals have a more intimate knowledge of the problem
- deepens democracy
- helps inculcate a habit of democratic participation among the ppl
Decentralisation got better, how?
Post 1992,
* Regular local elections
* reservations
* state election commission was set up
* power was transferred to local gvts
decentralisation bad, why?
- Casteism and discrimination
- Illiteracy
- irregular
- not enough power
- not enough resources
