Managing main symptoms of poising
Respiration - open airway, chin lift. Assisted ventilation maybe needed, oxygen in carbon monoxide poisoning
BP - hypotension with CNS depressant given sodium chloride, hypertension with amfexamine, phenyclide and cocaine
Body temperature - hypothermia with barbiturates / phenothiazine, hyperthermia with stimulants
Convulsions - benzodiazepines but not IM give IV if not Midazolam or diazepam rectally
Prevention of absorption - activated charcoal
Alcohol intoxication
Ataxia
Dysarthria
Nystagmus
Drowsiness
Hypoglycaemia
Aspirin poisoning
Hyperventilation
Tinnitus
Deafness
Vasodilation
Sweating
Opioid poisoning
Coma
Respiratory depression
Pinpoint pupils
Paracetamol poisoning
Severe hepatocellular necrosis
Liver damage
Give acetylcysteine - most effective within 8 hours
TCA poisoning
Dry mouth
Hypotension
Hypothermia
Dilated pupils
Urinary retention
SSRI poisoning
