Types of “Point of View”
First person, third person limited, third person omniscient
What is first person pov?
Uses the words I, me. They only know what they feel and can only comment on what they see
What is third person limited?
They use they, we, and us. Usually a secondary character.
What is third person omniscient?
An all knowing narrator. Moves through time and space. They use she, he, they, you, them.
What narrators do..
- they can lie or exaggerate
- can’t see everything that happens/know everything
- they leave out details (lie by omission)
- they could creat favour towards one character
What are character traits?
Traits given to a character to describe their personality in the story
What is a protagonist?
Main character, good guy
What is an antagonist?
Bad guy, opponent
Types of character traits:
Physical, flat/static, round/multi-dimensional
What are physical traits?
They describe a characters appearance
What is a flat/static character?
Emotions, opinions, and values don’t change throughout the story. Few if any traits are shared. (Always secondary character)
What is a round/multi-dimensional character?
Evolves feelings, opinions, and values throughout the story. A lot of the traits are given. (Primary character/main)
What are the six types of conflict?
Human vs Supernatural, Human vs Technology, Human vs Human, Human vs Self, Human vs Society, Human vs Nature
What is point of view?
The experience told by the narrator in a story
