Define Satire
Authors makes make fun of a subject through the use of techniques in their work
What are the four types of Satire
Exaggeration, Parody, Incongruity, Reversal
Define Exaggeration
Exaggeration is to in large, increase or represent something beyond normal bounds so it becomes ridiculous and it’s faults can be seen
Define Reversal
To present the opposite of the normal order Ex. Order of events or hierarchical order
Define Parody
To imitate the techniques and or style of a person place or thing
Define Incongruity
To present things that are out of place or are absurd in relation to their surroundings
Foreshadowing
A hint to a future event in the story
The three types of Irony
Situational, Verbal, dramatic
Define situational irony
When you expect one thing to happen and the opposite happens (suppose to be funny in a dark way)
Ex. Fire truck on fire
Define Verbal Irony
Like sarcasm it’s meant to be funny when you say on thing but mean the opposite
Ex. Have a nice trip? See you next fall.
Define Dramatic Irony
When the audience knows what will happen but the characters don’t
Ex. When Ina horror movie the murder is hiding and she will get killed if she goes up the stairs
Define imagery:
Imagery is created by using all of the senses in order to describe a scene. The more senses you use the better imagery.
