Types of poems: sonnet
- composed around a single expressed idea or sentiment
- 14 lines (iambic pentameter)
- 3 quatrains and 2 couplets

- no rhyme but contain iambic pentameter
- 2 syllables long: one stressed one unstressed

No rhyme and irregular structure

Serious poem that tells a story
- heroic event or deeds
- no set structure

Addresses a certain person or thing, by use of metaphor, similes and hyperbole
