a combo of harsh clashing sounds this is the SAME AS DISSONANCE
ex: his fingers cracked and pounded the door and his foot thumped against the disintegrated wood

the use of a word whose sound suggests it’s meaning
ex: boom bang clang clash

a figure of speech that makes a comparison between two things that are basically dissimilar
ex: hungry as a horse

the metaphor is extended throughout the entire poem

a comparison made between two things using like or as
ex; ocean is as blue as the sky

a figure of speech in which something non-human is given human qualities
ex: the sun kissed my skin

a figure of speech in which an inanimate object is addressed directly. usually preceded by “oh”
ex: oh book
define and give example of RHYME SCHEME
pattern of lines that rhyme with other lines in a poem or a stanza
define and give example of HYPERBOLE
a figure of speech using exaggeration or overstatement for spearfish effect
ex: that linebacker is as strong as a rhino
