Sibilance
Repetition of the ‘S’ sound
Imperative
Sentence that gives essential commands/to be done with urgency or authority
Sometimes called a bossy word I.e sit
Emotive language
Used to evoke an emotional response from the reader
Hyperbole
Exaggerated statements or claims not meant to be taken literally
Personification
Giving personal nature or human characteristics to something non human
Simile
Is to directly compare 2 different things
Onomatopoeia
A word sounding like what it is named /describing
Alliteration
The occurrence of the same letter or sound at the start of closely connected words
Metaphor
A description of an object or action in a way that isn’t literally true
Colour imagery
Using colours to represent deeper meaning
Ellipsis
A set of dots used to create or build tension (cliffhangers)
Dialogue
Conversation between two or more people in a book.It gives an in-site into the characters charcterisation
Pathetic fallacy
The attribution of human feelings or responses to Imamate things(animals)
Immediacy
Brings you into the moment
Sensory appeal
Where the writer draws focus on any of the 5 senses in order to bring it to life(creates immediacy)
