Conceit
(extended metaphor) The use of a single metaphor or analogy at length in a work of literature
Consonance
The repetition of the same consonant sounds in a line of text
Enjambment
The continuation of a sentence without a pause beyond the end of a line or stanza (no period)
Septet
A stanza of seven lines of verse that can be rhymed or unrhymed
Refrain
A line, phrase, or single word that is repeated periodically within the pome to build drama, emphasis, or rhythm
Assonance
The repetition of vowel sounds in consecutive words near enough to each other for the echo to be discernible
Oxymoron
A figure of speech in which apparently contradictory terms appear in conjunction
Quatrain
A stanza of four lines or verse
Tercet
A stanza of three lines or verses
