Metaphor
Ametaphoris acomparisonbetween two things that states one thing is another, in order help explain an idea or show hiddensimilarities. Unlike a simile that uses “like” or “as” (you shine like the sun!), ametaphordoes not use these two words.

Simile
compares two things by saying they are “like” each other; the subject IS LIKE the object.Similesremind us that acomparisonis being made, which sometimes makes them easier to understand and follow.

Personification is a literary device that uses the non-literal use of language to convey concepts in a relatable way. Writers use personification to give human characteristics, such as emotions and behaviors, to non-human things, animals, and ideas
