Monologue
One character speaking
Aside
A character speaks/the other character cannot hear them/the audience hears
Soliloquy
One character on stage, speaking their thoughts aloud.
Plot
The plot is what happens in the play. it is the story
Characters
Characters are people who feature in the story of the play. Sometimes a character is unseen, only spoken about by the other characters.
Climax
The climax is the highest point of tension in the story. It usually happens before the resolution/ending of the story.
Conflict
Conflict occurs when characters disagree or deceive each other. this causes tension in the story.
Costumes
Costumes are the clothes that actors wear on stage. They can tell us a lot about the setting and characters, such as what period the story is set in and which class a character is from.
Props
Short for properties.
Props are the objects used by the actors during a performance, such as chairs, tables, drinking glasses and so on.
Script
Scripts are generally written in acts and scenes. The scenes move the story forward through its introduction/beginning and conflict/middle to its resolution/ending.
Stage directions
Stage directions tell actors the tone they should say their lines in, where they should move to on stage and what props they should use. They also give information about the sound and lighting effects.
Set
Sets show where each scene of the play is set. A play might use painted backgrounds to show a countryside exterior or a cottage interior, for example.
Dialogue
Dialogue is the words spoken by the characters.
Ensemble
Ensemble plays includes a cast of actors that are given roughly equal amounts of dialogue.
Narrators
Narrators tell the audience more about the story.
