What is a symbol?
Something that stands for itself and something beyond it
What is imagery?
Using literary devices to provide visualization and creating a picture for all senses not just sight
What is an onomatopoeia?
A word imitating a sound to provide imagery.
What is a hyperbole?
Something that says more than is true, exaggerates so much it can’t be taken seriously
What is an alliteration?
A repetition of the consonant sounds at the beginning if words
What is a couplet?
A set of two lines which usually have a rhyming pattern
What are quatrains?
Four-line poems that allow different rhyme schemes to develop. Often thy contain the same amount of syllables per line.
What is a rhyme scheme?
The pattern sin which the ending words of each individual line rhyme.
What is rhyming?
When a words pronunciation matches the sound or is similar to another words pronunciation.
What is rhythm?
The arrangement of stressed and unstressed syllables creating fluency in a poem.
What is a meter?
Writing in a rhythm of accented and unaccented syllables organized into feet
Personification is?
Applying human characteristics to something without them.
Stanza?
Lines in formation if paragraphs with no set punctuation if formation rules.
