What is implicit egotism?

A

The idea that many biases are unconscious, and egotism is valuing the self, so there are several different things that reflect an attraction to the self

A

Certain details seem to pop out more

What are the 3 core information motivators?

A
  • People want to make accurate, efficient decisions in the most rewarding way possible (we use COMPARISON)
  • We want to behave in ways that gain the approval of others
  • We want to make decisions and behave in ways that allow us to be seen in a positive light; to stand out from the crowd, yet affiliate us with a group

Q

Why is the salesman approach only likely to work once?

A

The awareness of the individual that fooled them becomes more heightened

  • Trying to persuade people using more and more tactics is bad because people notice and start to resist
  • Be clear about how you looking to change the behaviours of others, but not change the fundamental beliefs, because people don’t go against those
