Pneumothorax
A
Gas in the pleural space that raises plural pressures and can impair respiration, resulting in collapsed lung

Signs and symptoms of pneumothorax
A
*Hyper resonance on affected side
*Diminished breath sounds and diminished fremitus on affected side
*Mediastinal shift toward the unaffected side (tension)
Chest pain, dyspnea, cough
Hypotension

Lab and diagnostics for pneumothorax
A
CXR
ABG may be indicated

Management of pneumothorax
A
<20% Pneumothorax in a symptomatic patient requires no intervention
Chest tube is used first available; an emergency, needle thoracostomy ( 2nd ICS, MCL)
Chest tube placement 4 or 5th ICS, MAL
