Pneumonia Flashcards
Lobar pneumonia: characteristics
homogenous consolidation of affected lobe with air bronchogram; strep pneumo
segmental pneumonia: characteristics
patchy airspace disease, freq. involving several segments, no air bronchogram, atelectasis; staph au.
interstitial pneumonia: characteristics
reticular, interstitial disease; usually diffuse; progresses to airspace disease; P. jiroveci
round pneumonia: characteristics
lower lobe of children, resembles mass; spherically shaped; H. influ / streptococcus / pneumococcus
cavitary pneumonia: characteristics
mycobacterium, TB
cocciodies / TB manifestation on xray
thin walled, upper lobe cavity (Ohio river valley)
airspace disease + effusion
streptococci, staphylococci, TB
diffuse nodules
histoplasma, coccidoides, mycobacterium TB
aspergillos manifestations
soft-tissue fingerlike shadows in upper lobes, or spherical soft tissue mass in a thin-walled upper lobe mass
cryptococcus pneumonia manifestations
solitary pulmonary nodule
pseudomonas aergulosa / bacterioides (anaerobic) pneumonia
lower lobe cavitary pneumonia
klebsiella pneumonia
upper lobar pneumonia w/ bulging interlobar fissure
upper lobe cavitary pneumonia w/ spread to the opposite lower lobe
TB
patterns of aspiration:
1) bland gastric acid / water
2) infected aspirated (i.e.: aspiration pneumonia)
3) unneutralized stomach acid = chemical pneumonitis
characteristics of bland acid / water aspiration
rapidly appearing / clearing air space disease in dependent lobes (not a pneumonia)
