At what temperature do Steel and Aluminium cylinders lose their tensile strength?
300 degrees centigrade Steel.
200-250 degrees centigrade Aluminium.
What is the initial hazard zone for a steel cylinder that has been substantially heated or is receiving direct flame impingement?
200m. This may be reduced when substantial cover is considered or on advice of HMEPO.
Crews working within what distance of an involved cylinder should have full firefighting PPE donned including BA?
25m.
What needs to be included in an informative message at a confirmed cylinder incident?
Highest recorded temperature, hazard zone size and tactical mode.
As part of the CAP what is the minimum initial cooling period for an acetylene cylinder?
1 hour.
What is procedure for a cylinder alight at valve grouping but grouping still usable?
What may be needed to turn off valve group.
Commit crew with full PPE, BA and 45mm jet to assess damage. If feasible extinguish flame and close cylinder.
If acetylene then a cylinder key may be required. Some new cylinders may have a hand wheel or other similar method.
