Total Operations Processing System. Computer based info system for coach,wagon, freight including contents etc.
Accessed by message to control requesting TOPS info and giving carriage number.
How can you isolate power to a train using OLE without isolating current in the OLE?
Getting driver/competent person to lower pantograph (some risk of residual current).
What is in place as a warning for crews working on trains using OLE?
Orange line (sometimes black or white if contrast better with cosmetics). Until power confirmed off and OLE earthed by authorised person anything above this is to be considered live.
All equipment also must remain below this line until made safe.
What is the maximum speed of trains running under caution?
50mph.
If a brigade lookout is required what is their minimum kit?
What must also be deployed if brigade lookout is used?
Handheld radio on dedicated channel.
Whistle.
Hand lamp.

What must IC also do once this has been confirmed?
Confirmed off and SCDs in place by competent qualified person. LU supervised, NIRM, RIO.
Send a priority message to control giving name, role and time power is confirmed off.
A priority message can be sent to control requesting power to be isolated between two known locations and trains stopped. Assumed live until control confirm power isolated.
Who can place SCDs on track if rail personnel are unavailable?
FRU crew with appropriate training.
What trackside comms systems are available for the brigade to utilise?
OLE gantry telephones.
Signal post telephones.
Also public address systems at NR/LU stations.
