PMAT Flashcards
1
Q
Interphase
A
Cells make a copy of chromosomes involving replication of DNA
2
Q
Prophase
A
- The chromosomes coil and become shorter and fatter
- Protein fibres form a spindle in the cell
- Each chromosome consists of 2 chromatids
3
Q
Metaphase
A
- One or more spindle fibre attaches to centromere
- Chromosomes line up in centre of spindle
4
Q
Anaphase
A
- Centromere divides
- Spindle fibres shorten and pull one pair of sister chromatid to opposite poles of spindle.
- We can now refer to chromatids as chromosomes
5
Q
Telophase
A
- A nuclear envelope forms around each set of chromosomes
- Chromosomes become long and thin
- Cytoplasm divides to form 2 cells(cytokinesis)
6
Q
Cytokinesis
A
When the cytoplasm divides to form 2 new cells during mitosis
