Ms Green Flashcards
Function of cell surface membrane
Regulates movement of substances in and out of the cell. Also has a receptor molecules to respond to chemicals(hormones).
Description of cell surface membrane
- Found on surface of cell in animal cells
- Found inside cell wall on plant cells
- Made of lipids and proteins
Description of nucleus
A large organelle surrounded by nuclear envelope.
Contains chromosomes and a nucleolus
Function of nucleus
Controls cells activities.
DNA contains instructions for proteins.
Nuclear pores allow substances to move between nucleus and cytoplasm
Description of mitochondrian
- Has double membrane
- Inner is folded to form structures called Cristae
- Inside is the matrix which contains enzymes for respiration
Function of mitochondrian
Site of aerobic respiration
Description Chloroplasts
- Found in plant and algal cells
- Surrounded by double membrane
Function of chloroplast
Site where photosynthesis takes place.
Description of Golgi apparatus
Group of fluid-filled membrane bound sacs.
Vesicles are often seen at the edges of the sacs
Description of Golgi vesicle
Small fluid filled sac in cytoplasm surrounded by membrane.
Function of Golgi apparatus
Processes and packages new lipids and proteins
Makes lysosomes
Function of Golgi vesicle
Stores lipids and proteins made by Golgi apparatus and transports them out of cell
Description of Lysosomes
Round organelle surrounded by a membrane
Contains lysozymes
Description of Ribosomes
Small organelle in cytoplasm attached to RER
Site where proteins are made
Description of Rough endoplasmic reticulum
System of membranes enclosing a fluid filled space.
Surface covered with ribosomes
