Q

Explain the transition from use and exploitation of land and natural resources to recreation, conservation/preservation

A

Early settlers viewed the natural world as something to be used, tamed, and controlled by man with no concern for any detrimental impacts to the environment. Early conservationists saw this as a problem and promoted awareness to have a responsibility to the land and it’s inherent value through writings, paintings, etc. influencing government to create legislation to protect and preserve the lands for future use and recreation.
