Constructivism
A theory that knowledge is constructed most effectively when it is required by working together and using real-world experiences
Metacognition
Thinking about thinking… developed at age 12
(can be used when figuring out the meaning of a new word)
Think-Pair-Share
Students are given time to think on their own, pair with a partner to discuss ideas, and then share with the rest of the class.
Self-efficacy
One’s belief in their ability to achieve goals
Self-Regulation
One’s ability to manage themselves or control their own behavior, attention, emotions, thinking, and feeling (this skill must be developed)
Direct Teach
Teacher-centered approach/Lecturing
Project-Based Learning
Uses a real-world problem that students need to solve, and in the process, they develop new skills
Operant Conditioning (Skinner)
Using reinforcement to refine behaviors (good vs bad)
Classical Conditioning (Pavlov)
You teach someone something and they associate it with something (bell ringing in schools)
Intrinsic Motivation
Comes from within
Extrinsic Motivation
Comes from outside forces
