Plot
Main events in a story, novel, movie, ext.
Narrative
A story
Exposition
Learning important background of characters, setting, situation, and begin to understand the nature of the conflict
Rising Action
After an inciting incident or significant event, the conflict becomes more clear, and main characters starts to experience complications
Climax
Point which stories suspense, emotions, and tensions peak. This critical turning point marks where everything changes
Falling Action
The falling action details the effects of what happens at the climax of a narrative and the conflict comes to a point of resolution
Denouement
“untying the knot” in French, and this is the part of the plot often the shortest, readers learn how conflict has reached a resolution. Also expresses the “moral of the story”
Setting
when and where the story takes place
Suspense
A literary device that uses tension to make the plot more exciting; it is the effect created by artful delays and selective dissemination or information
Tragedy
A genre that focuses around a noble character who struggles against strong external challenges
Comedy
IN contrast to tragedy, has a light amusing plot, features a happy ending, centers around ordinary people, and is written and preformed in the vernacular
Resolution
The working out of the plots conflicts, following the climax
Flashback
A scene in a narrative that is set in an earlier time than the main action
Foreshadowing
A plot device in which future events are hinted at
