Q

A zone blitz is called versus a 3 x 1 set. Number three receiver goes fast to the flat. What is our check and what does it mean?

A

The three hole player gives an out call. The out call means the 2 seam player holds up the number two receiver before rolling to the number three receiver. Then the three hole player picks up the number two receiver.

Q

Describe the blitzing back concept in cover one dog.

A

Typically one rushes from the outside in and one rushes from the inside out. The edge rusher has peel responsibility. The inside rusher will hug on inside release or chase when back away.

Q

What dictates who rushes in 1 dog coverage?

A

The running back and wide receiver combination. Back away from/pistol from trips side, safety call (Mike has #3, will and safety will blitz). Running back on trips side means backer call (FS has #3, will and Mike will blitz)

Q

Describe the check buster.

A

SS/FS-backside safety plays #3 to MOF while trips side safety plays #2 to #1 (star responsibility)
CB-sink to a depth of 15 to 18 yards, looking for intermediate outside breaking route. If #2 and #3 both go vertical, continue to sink.
S/N-reroute #2 on the way to the flat. If #3 goes fast flat, jump route. If #2/#3 go vertical/inside, read #1.
M-drops to reroute #3 while pushing to #2 (if #3 is flat). Do not chase crosser, be aware #1/#2 coming in.

Q

What is the front 7 alignment in over?

A
Viper TE = 9, no TE = 6
tackle call side 4
nose 0
Rush = 5 tech
Sam TE--cov 2 = 50 tech, cov 3 = 3 x 5 over TE; no TE align based on call
Mike--stack the nose
Will--50 tech
16
Q

How is strength called in over?

A

With a Ralph or Larry call to the tight end. If no TE, call to field.

17
Q

What is the typical depth for the safeties?

A

15 yards.

33
Q

Explain the coverage behind zone blitz sting fire.

A

Because Sam/nickel blitzes free safety becomes the 2 seam player. Versus double, Rush becomes the three hole player and Willie becomes 2 seam player. All other formations this is transposed.

34
Q

Explain the coverage behind zone blitz Houston viper.

A

FS always = MOF (looking for a post route).
Mike = 2 seam weak
Viper = 3 hole
Sam/nickel = 2 seam strong

38
Q

What is the difference between cover three and cover six?

A

Cover 3 = Sam. Cover six = nickel.

39
Q

Explain coverage concepts for base cover three.

A

Begin in a cover to shell. Strong safety comes down to the 2 seam weak, Sam has the 2 seam strong.

40
Q

Explain coverage concepts for base cover six.

A

Begin in a cover 2 shell. Boundary safety comes down to the 2 seam weak, nickel has the 2 seam weak.

41
Q

What does an under call signify?

A

Under call is given by the two seam player to alert an ILB of a crosser.

42
Q

What does skate mean for a weak 3 hole player?

A

Work to get under #3.

43
Q

Versus a 2x2 or 2x1 formation. Describe the response of the 3 hole weak player.

A

Relate to #3 your side, check for crossers when #3 away, be alert to under calls.

44
Q

What does a pull call signify?

A

Set run strength to the Rush end side.

45
Q

Explain the methodology behind the Scooch call.

A

Outside foot, step replace step replace, while reacting to the pass route in front of you, catching the route to 10 yards. If vertical, play man on outside hip forcing receiver to inside help at safety. If route breaks in/out, become the flat player. Run with any wheels.

46
Q

What is meant by high shoulder leverage?

A

DB’s position is high and inside the receiver.

47
Q

Explain the coverage behind zone blitz zorro.

A

If coverage is rolled strong then Willy becomes the weak 2 seam player.
If the coverage is rolled weak then Willy becomes the 3 hole player.
We roll the coverage strong (FS comes down to Sam side) when there are more receiving threats to the field side. We roll the coverage weak when it’s more of a balanced look in regards to receiving threats (like versus a doubles formation, for example).

48
Q

Explain the coverage behind zone blitz blaze (like shark tan blaze).

A

Free safety rolls to strong 2 seam, Mike = 3 hole, Willy = weak 2 seam and strong safety = MOF.

49
Q

Explain to seam player alignment versus TE and or a detached #2.

A

3 x 5 versus a #2TE; 1x6 versus a detached #2; inside foot back for both.

50
Q

Explain the coverage behind zone blitz Willy.

A

Sam is the strong 2 seam player, SS is the weak 2 seam player, Mike is the only 3 hole player. FS is the MoF.

51
Q

Explain the coverage behind zone blitz spear.

A

Should only one receiver show: Sam is the strong 2 seam player, Will is the weak 2 seam player, Mike is the only 3 hole player. FS is the MoF. (SS is blitzing C gap).
UNLESS THERE IS A WHEEZY CALL. THEN WILL BLITZES, STRONG SAFETY IS THE WEAK 2 SEAM PLAYER.
