Playbook Flashcards
Describe triangle.
Sam has first outside breaking route, Mike has first inside breaking route, free safety plays the deep breaking route and CB is man versus #1. If #2/#3 both go vertical, Mike and Sam must reroute.
What are the 3 x1 checks?
Triangle, star, stress, and buster.
What are the coverage responsibilities in 2 man coverage for all linebackers and safeties?
Cover 2 shell, OLBs take the number 2 receivers, and Mike takes the back.
What is the essential principle for match concepts in cover three, cover six, and zone blitzes?
Man versus vertical routes and zone versus crossing routes.
Versus a 3 x 1 set what should I be thinking?
Skate call, unless a check is introduced.
A zone blitz is called versus a 3 x 1 set. Number three receiver goes fast to the flat. What is our check and what does it mean?
The three hole player gives an out call. The out call means the 2 seam player holds up the number two receiver before rolling to the number three receiver. Then the three hole player picks up the number two receiver.
Describe one hole coverage.
It’s man coverage with ILBs banjo the RB. this keeps one ILB in the hole and one safety deep.
Describe 1 dog.
The only difference between one dog and one hole is the inside linebackers blitz.
What is special about the nose tackle in the zone blitz sting fire?
He essentially becomes the contain man.
Describe the blitzing back concept in cover one dog.
Typically one rushes from the outside in and one rushes from the inside out. The edge rusher has peel responsibility. The inside rusher will hug on inside release or chase when back away.
What dictates who rushes in 1 dog coverage?
The running back and wide receiver combination. Back away from/pistol from trips side, safety call (Mike has #3, will and safety will blitz). Running back on trips side means backer call (FS has #3, will and Mike will blitz)
Describe star coverage.
Its a cover 2 check adjustment to a trips set:
Backside safety reads #3 receiver for a vertical release, if no release sinks to MoF
Backside corner plays man
Trips side safety favors one and two
Everyone else plays cover 2
Describe the stress check.
Trips side plays triangle.
Backside safety rolls down to the alley and plays the flat.
Backside corner matches deep route.
Describe the check buster.
SS/FS-backside safety plays #3 to MOF while trips side safety plays #2 to #1 (star responsibility)
CB-sink to a depth of 15 to 18 yards, looking for intermediate outside breaking route. If #2 and #3 both go vertical, continue to sink.
S/N-reroute #2 on the way to the flat. If #3 goes fast flat, jump route. If #2/#3 go vertical/inside, read #1.
M-drops to reroute #3 while pushing to #2 (if #3 is flat). Do not chase crosser, be aware #1/#2 coming in.
What is the viper’s alignment and responsibility in stack?
Stacks the nose and plays opposite the nose’s direction.
