PLAX and PSAX Flashcards
What is systole?
contraction of the heart
What is diastole?
relaxation of the heart, ventricles refill
Which is the arterial side of the heart?
left
Which is the venous side of the heart?
right
What is the function of the right side of the heart?
collects deoxygenated blood from body, pumps it to lungs to receive oxygen
What is the function of the left side of the heart?
collects oxygenated blood from lungs, pumps it to the body
What is the normal blood flow in the heart?
SVC/IVC -> RA -> tricuspid valve -> RV -> pulmonic valve -> pulmonary artery -> lungs -> pulmonary veins -> LA -> mitral valve -> LV -> AoV -> ascending aorta -> aortic arch -> thoracic aorta -> descending aorta -> body
What are the branches of the aortic arch?
Brachiocephalic aka innominate, left CCA, left subclavian
What is CW doppler?
sends out signal and listens for blood flow anywhere along cursor, averages all blood flow velocities
What is PW doppler?
sends out signal and listen for blood flow in specific location, accurate, precise velocities
What is M-Mode?
probe sends out signal then detects any motion that the cursor crosses
What is the pt position for parasternal?
rolled up on their left side with left up under pillow
Where is the probe marker for PLAX?
11
What is the PLAX/RVIT protocol?
- 2D PLAX clip
- PLAX diastolic image w measurements (IVS, LV, RV, post LV wall)
- PLAX systolic image w measurements (LV, LA)
- Zoom LVOT and aorta clip
- Zoom MV/AoV clip
- Color MV/AoV clip
- M-mode MV image
- M-mode AoV image
- M-mode LV image w measurements (IVS, LV, post wall, systolic LV)
- 2D RVIT clip
- Color RVIT clip
- CW RVIT image
Where is the marker for PSAX?
