A

Platelets consumed by unknown cause. Hyaline micro thrombi occlude small vessels of organs and cause mechanical damage to RBCs

A

Plasmaheresis
Corticosteriods
Splenectomy
NOT platelet transfusion (they are clumping and causing the problem to begin with)

Describe the two types of Heparin Induced Thrombocytopenia

A

Type 1: heparin causes platelet aggregation within 48hrs of starting the drug

Type 2: 3 to 12 days after starting heparin antibodies form against it AND the platelets causing destruction of the platelets
