Plate tectonics Flashcards
Lithosphere
the rigid outer part of the earth, consisting of the crust and upper mantle.
Asthenosphere
the upper layer of the earth’s mantle, below the lithosphere, in which there is relatively low resistance to plastic flow and convection is thought to occur.
Mesosphere
The mesosphere is the third layer of the atmosphere,
Inner Core
It is primarily a solid ball with a radius of about 1,220 km,
Outer Core
Image result for Outer Core
The outer core is the third layer of the Earth. It is the only liquid layer
Seismic Waves
an elastic wave in the earth produced by an earthquake or other means.
Oceanic Crust
oceans crust
Continental Crust
continents crust
Density
Density is the substance’s mass per unit of volume.
Alfred Wegener
Alfred Lothar Wegener was a German climatologist, geologist, geophysicist, meteorologist, and polar researcher.
Continental Drift
when tectonic plates move
Convergent Boundary
one tectonic plate slides under another and creates some sort of mountain or hill.
Divergent Boundary
two tectonic plates move away from each other and can create rifts and valleys.
Transform Boundary
were two plates slide past eachother.
Sea-floor Spreading
plates at the sea floor split and move away from each other.
