What to do
Injury to extensor tendon central slip from forced flexion at PIP joint.
Patient is unable to extend PIP joint.
If suspected spint PIP in extension and refer (Plastics/MIC)
Jersey Finger
.
(DIP) Injury to FDP tendon at base of distal phalanx from forced extension of flexed finger.
Patient cannot flex DIP.
Needs Plastics referral as tendon retracts quickly

DIP joint
Injury to extensor tendon at terminal insertion into distal phalanx (usually from forced flexion in extended position—“jammed finger”).
Unable to extend DIP.
Refer plastics. If no fracture usually conservative management with splint in extension. If significant fracture may need OR.
