Plasma cell dyscrasias Flashcards
- Clinical presentation of Waldenstrom Macroglobulinemia?
- Dx?
Waldenström macroglobulinemia is an indolent B-cell lymphoma with clonal lymphoplasmacytic infiltration of the bone marrow that secretes IgM in the blood
- lymphadenopathy, hepatomegaly, splenomegaly
- hyperviscosity symptoms: headache, blurry vision, hearing loss, dizziness. AMS, nasal/mucosal bleeding –> a medical emergency, treat with plasmapheresis
Dx - bone marrow biopsy
Immune thrombocytopenic purpura can be idiopathic, triggered by medications, or associated with other disorders, such as?
systemic lupus erythematosus, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, lymphoma, HIV, hepatitis C, or Helicobacter pylori infection
**Antiplatelet antibody testing is not recommended because of low sensitivity and specificity, and this test should not be performed in the evaluation of thrombocytopenia.
